Tell us a little about the record… 

‘I Am A Woman’ is all about taking control of who you want be and being happy with who you are. Being a woman in rock myself, there is a certain unspoken expectation of who you should be, how you should look, act, speak, breath and so I wanted ‘I Am A Woman’ to be a message made loud and clear to all women and men as well, that you don’t have to be what people want you to be, you don’t have to change and you certainly don’t have to live in accordance to another’s expectations of you. Be fiercely unapologetic and live your life the way YOU want to.

What inspired I Am A Woman? 

In theory, this track was heavily inspired by the 21st century we are living in, how things have changed for women and where things might go in the future. However, musically, I was very inspired by Pulp Fiction. I wanted to make a song that could soundtrack and inspire the ‘Mia Wallace’ moments in our lives; the moments where you’re on top of the world, all guts and glory, guns blazing, the moments when you are untouchable, when no one but yourself is in control of you.

What does song writing and musical expression mean to you? 

I’ve always believed that music is powerful enough to heal, strengthen, encourage, and pretty much be anything you need it to be. It is a subconscious therapy. It is your best friend, there for you when you’re low and need to feel understood. It is your angel, reminding you to get up and get out, and this is why music is so important to me. Writing music makes me feel all these things, and through this, I get to make the world feel those things too.

Who are some women who inspire you to live creatively? 

In the music world, people like Blondie, Stevie Nicks and Alison Mosshart have been big influences to me but most importantly it’s the women around me in my everyday life that influence me more than anyone and inspire me to be everything a woman is; strong, compassionate, loving, and fierce. From my aunties and cousins to the people I work with like, Sarah Madigan, Karinda Mutabazi, Michelle Grace Hunder, to name only a few, all incredibly powerful and talented women; And of course, my mother who has been quite literally, everything to me.
